Carol Mochan, Scottish Labour Candidate for Carrick Cumnock and Doon Valley has been speaking to older voters this week on what Scottish Labour offers older people in this election. She said
'This election is the most important in the history of the Scottish Parliament because the people you elect will have more power than ever before.
Those new powers mean we are faced with a choice between using the powers or continuing with cuts and austerity. Labour’s choice is to use the powers to stop the cuts and stand up for older voters.'
Carol went on to outline Labour's pledges for older people
'We’ll make sure that thousands of women born between April 1951 and 1953 do not lose out from the changes to the State Pension
We'll protect the winter fuel payment and take action against fuel poverty
We’ll protect older people’s free bus passes and regulate buses to keep services reliable and regular
Labour will protect our NHS from cuts and guarantee an appointment at your GP surgery within 48 hours
Labour will stop the cuts to the community services older people rely on
And we’ll scrap the unfair council tax once and for all, making good on the SNP’s broken promise
We will pay for this by raising the rate of income tax by a penny and making the richest pay their fair share with a 50p top rate. Because we are being honest about how we would pay for our promises, you know we can afford to keep them. '
